Community Activities
The successful existence of the choir much depends on the support of the local community attending our concerts.
In return we aspire to give back to the community.
Shrewsbury Food Bank
Shrewsbury Cantata Choir supports the Shrewsbury Food Bank by donating items each week.
The Shrewsbury Food Bank is run by a group of volunteers who, every week, organise and distribute parcels of donated food to people experiencing real hardship in our town. There are two food-bank centres in Shrewsbury, one at Barnabas Church Centre and one at Hope Church. http://www.barnabascommunityprojects.org/foodbank.html
Singing for you
Shrewsbury Cantata Choir also reaches out to the community by responding to invitations to sing at charitable events or locations such as homes for the elderly. If you would like us to visit you please contact us and we will endeavour to entertain you, either with carols or another programme at a different time of the year.
Inclusiveness
The town of Shrewsbury and the county of Shropshire are rich in organisations that love to sing and perform. Perhaps it is our proximity to Wales! Cantata as a choir often joins with other choral choirs to present mixed programmes or works being produced by independent organisations (such as the BBC's Songs of Praise) thus enriching the choral offering available to the community.
Many of our members 'guest sing' in other local choirs that wish to augment their numbers for a large piece of work, and Cantata often extends reciprocal invitations which are not limited to singers who are already a member of another choir, thus widening the opportunities for Shropshire people to experience the joy and wonder of being part of a talented singing group.
